POOCHES AND PEOPLE TAKE TO PARK CITY’S MAIN STREET WITH JUNE EVENTS
Final Weekend in June is Park City’s Official Kickoff to Summer
PARK CITY, UTAH June 9, 2011) – The last weekend in June brings summer excitement to Park City’s Historic District. With the support of the Historic Park City Alliance, a weekend of art, entertainment and dining will kick off Park City’s slow start to a great summer. The weekend will begin with the Bark ‘n’ Art Gallery Stroll on Friday, June 24, continue with the fourth annual Savor the Summit on Saturday, June 25 and conclude with the Park Silly Sunday market on June 26.
In honor of the life of Connie Katz, the Park City Gallery Association will host a special themed event during June’s gallery stroll. The Bark ‘n’ Art Gallery Stroll, inspired by Katz’s love for canine companions and Park City’s eclectic locale, encourages visitors and locals to bring their dogs along for Park City’s June art walk. On June 24, from 6-9pm, pooches and people are invited to explore Park City’s dynamic art scene and stop into participating galleries for an evening of artists, exhibits and special events. Milkdrive, an acoustic folk and jazz band from Austin, Texas, will perform on Main Street for free as part of June’s Bark ‘n’ Art Gallery Stroll. Additionally, people and pets may stop by Silver Queen Fine Arts to have their photo taken for a $5 donation, benefitting Park City Friends of Animals, a no-kill organization that cares for homeless pets.
“Connie was a dear friend and a great supporter of Park City’s art community,” explained Maren Bargreen Mullin, owner of Gallery MAR and coordinator of the Bark ‘n’ Art Gallery Stroll. “We wanted to dedicate June’s gallery stroll in honor of her memory and the energy she brought to Park City.”
Leading up to the Bark ‘n’ Art weekend, Dancing Hands Gallery will raffle a two-night stay at a two-bedroom apartment on Main Street to be redeemed June 24-26. Raffle entries, which cost $20 and benefits Park City Friends of Animals. Details and directions for submitting raffle entries can be found online at www.parkcitygalleryassociation.com.
Following the Bark ‘n’ Art Gallery Stroll, the Park City Restaurant Association presents the fourth annual Savor the Summit on Saturday, June 25. Known as Park City’s longest dinner party, Savor the Summit takes over Historic Main Street for an evening of community dining and award-winning food. Participating Main Street restaurants will serve patrons seated at the Grande Table, one long, continuous al fresco dinner party arranged in the middle of Main Street. Guests can make reservations directly with any participating restaurant, each offering their choice of menu, pricing and bar service. Menus range from $40 to $150 per person, and a list of participating restaurants may be found online at www.savorthesummit.com.
Presented by Mountain Town Music, Brian Jordan will perform funk tunes at the Main Stage, located near the Kimball Art Center, beginning at 4pm. The Spirit Garden, located in the same area, will serve adult beverages from 4-10pm. Main Street will be closed to vehicles during Savor the Summit but will be open to foot traffic.
The weekend of HPCA events finishes on Sunday, June 26 with the Park Silly Sunday Market. Now in its fifth year, the Park Silly Sunday Market is a community-supported open-air market featuring crafts, food vendors, live music and kids activities. The market is open from 10am – 5pm every Sunday through September.
