In the beginning, Park City was a rough and tumble silver mining boom town. The mines came and went but a raucous bunch of folks stayed on to ski and carouse. From those rowdy beginnings sprang bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff. Seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes. Come to think of it, Historic Park City today is still a lot like it was back in the 1890’s – only now with cushier lodgings and much better coffee.

The Egyptian Presents "A Rented Christmas"

The Egyptian Theatre starts a new Holiday tradition with this production of "A Rented Christmas" based on a short story by J.  Lillian Vandervere, written by Norman C. Ahern, Jr. and Yvonne Ahern and directed by Paul Tan.

The show will offer an alternative to the standard Christmas Carol productions being produced year after year. A Rented Christmas is set in The Great Depression era and focuses on a lonely businessman, John Dale (played by Nate Sears), who has lost his parents and hasn't enjoyed a "real Christmas" for years.

At the last moment John decides to "rent" a Christmas from a local rent shop run by Anne Weston (played by Stephanie Ogden). Anne is a bit overwhelmed with the requests by John to rent everything from a tree with presents, Christmas Carolers and a wife with five children but quickly resolves the dilemma of finding a family to rent by turning to the local actors' guild.

However, as with any great play there are twists and turns and just when it seems Anne has everything John needs, the actors' come down with measles and Anne is forced to come up with an alternative plan.  Anne quick on her feet turns to the local orphanage for the five children and then places herself as the "mother" and wife.

This heartwarming tale shows that although money can buy you almost everything you could desire, even a perfect Christmas, without love in your heart there is still a void of loneliness that no amount of money can fill.  Will John find the love that has been missing for so long?
Please join us this December as we offer you a great family friendly, holiday cheer play that we hope you will return to see time and time again.
