In the beginning, Park City was a rough and tumble silver mining boom town. The mines came and went but a raucous bunch of folks stayed on to ski and carouse. From those rowdy beginnings sprang bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff. Seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes. Come to think of it, Historic Park City today is still a lot like it was back in the 1890’s – only now with cushier lodgings and much better coffee.

Take Part in the Electric Parade

Don’t let the shortest day of the year leave you in the dark!  Come up to Historic Park City for our Winter Solstice Electric Parade on Wednesday, December 21st.

While most people enjoy driving through neighborhoods listening to Christmas music and looking at Holiday lights, we thought not take the display and make it mobile.  Beginning at 6pm the vehicles will leave City Park, and proceed up Park Avenue to Main Street. KPCW will help us with broadcasting holiday music at 6:10 which is about the time the vehicles will be on Main Street.

To make this a great event, we need you to be a part of it too.  Come join the fun, light up your car or bicycle, and be a part of the parade.  There is no cost, but you do need to register with us by December 20th.  Contact Alison Butz to register.  Alison@historicparkcityutah.com.

Participants have the chance to win a cash prize in one of five categories, awarded by a panel of local judges. The local judges include:
-Leslie Thatcher, KPCW
-Jen Harman, Anchor and Producer of Morning Show, PCTV
-Deb Corrigan, EHMS Art Teacher and Owner of O’Shucks
-Jonathan DeGray, Architect on Main Street
-Lori Harris, Owner Mary Jane’s
-Stacy Dymalski, local author and comedian
-Colleen Burke, Director of Member Services Park City Chamber Bureau
-Jill Rathburn, Owner Livin’ Life Park City

Categories and prizes include:
-“Mayor’s Award”/Best of Show: Historic Park City gift card worth $200
-“Power to Make it Happen”/Best Use of Lights: Historic Park City gift card worth $100
-“Entrepreneurs Unite”/Small Business Award: Historic Park City gift card worth $100
-“Park City Style”/Most True of Authentic Park City: Historic Park City gift card worth $100
-“Holiday Time in the Mountains”/Best Christmas Spirit: Historic Park City gift card worth $100

There are some great websites out there that can help you with powering the lights off your car’s battery.  No electrician skills required, however they do range from easy, medium and more difficult.

The picture above is of last year's PCTV entry which was given honorary mention. It was a killer float that didn't make it out of City Park due to mechanical issues.  We hope to see them back this year.
