Jesus Christ Superstar at the Egyptian Theatre for the Holidays
Thursday, January 5, 2012
Ted Neeley, legendary performer of the role of Jesus Christ in "Jesus Christ Superstar" will star in the upcoming production of the rock opera at Park City's historic Egyptian Theatre. The shows run December 15 to 31 for the holiday season.
Ted Neeley has made this iconic role world famous over the past 40-plus years. He was originally cast in the title role of the 1973 Universal Studios film and has gone on to perform it internationally over 1,500 times to continued critical acclaim. Despite his being older than Jesus ever lived to be in his own life, Neeley's performances of the young man are so compelling and completely convincing, audiences forget the age difference between actor and reality.
"Jesus Christ Superstar" is the story of Jesus' last seven days on earth as told from the perspective of Judas Iscariot and within the musical framework of a very hip rock opera. The perplexing question of the show is: Is Jesus a man with a dramatic new message or a Superstar, a god?
