In the beginning, Park City was a rough and tumble silver mining boom town. The mines came and went but a raucous bunch of folks stayed on to ski and carouse. From those rowdy beginnings sprang bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff. Seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes. Come to think of it, Historic Park City today is still a lot like it was back in the 1890’s – only now with cushier lodgings and much better coffee.

February Gallery Stroll Highlights

Every month, our Park City galleries offer the community a tour of their artistic wares. Each gallery in the Park City Gallery Association opens their doors from 6 to 9 pm, on the last Friday of the month, and encourages visitors to experience fine art and refreshments on our mountain town Gallery Stroll.

On this night, the participating galleries feature eats and drinks for you to enjoy, and you’ll find many artists in attendance for their own show openings and receptions. In addition, watch for artists painting in the galleries, or even on Main Street.

Seven galleries are presenting special exhibitions and works of art during the February 25th Gallery Stroll.

Terzian Galleries, located at 309 Main Street will host artists Lane Bennion.  Bennion brings 20 new paintings from his "Interior Landscapes" show to the gallery, featuring bright lights and beautiful objects.

At 580 Main Street, Gallery MAR will feature new paintings by Fred Calleri. In this new body of work, Calleri has begun the evolution towards a smoother balance of the representational alongside his quirky distortion. This invites the viewer into a deeper narrative with the work. The historical nature of the paintings reach back to a simpler time. For Calleri, every painting is a lesson learned, as he sets an intention related to mood, palette, light, or expression for each piece. The results are unmistakably Calleri.

Rodney Lough Jr., world-renowned Master Landscape Photographer, announces his newest image titled “Arise”. The Park City Wilderness Collections Gallery, at 545 Main Street will host a reception on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, from 7-10 pm.  These events are free and open to the general public. Rodney Lough Jr. is the most respected and honored wilderness landscape photographer of the 21st century.  He travels North America seeking out the most wild and scenic locations to photograph and share with the world.

Montgomery- Lee Fine Art, at 608 Main Street, is featuring a phenomenal show by artists Jared Sanders & Joseph Alleman. Painting the often overlooked beauty of the rural west, Jared Sanders tonalist palette compliments his strong compositional landscapes. A master signature member of American Watercolor Society, Joseph Alleman's highly collectable figurative, architectural, and landscape portrayals invite the viewer to observe the moment while revealing a sense of time and place.  His perspective and consistent use of subtle earth tones elicit feelings of solitude, stillness and inner reflection. Artist Reception-Friday, February 25th, 2011 6:00-9:00 pm
