Apr. 2011: Washington School Inn Raises Money for Park City Education Foundation

Park City’s historic Washington School Inn announced that it is donating $10,000 from the proceeds of its closing estate sale to the Park City Education Foundation.  On Saturday, April 2, hundreds of people lined up along Park Avenue to wait to enter the highly anticipated sale.  The Washington School Inn officially closed on Saturday in order to host the sale, which cleared out the inn to ready it for extensive renovations beginning Monday, April 4.

During the event, which took place for four hours, over 300 shoppers took home everything from furniture and linens to kitchenware and electronics.  The little that was left behind is being donated to local charities in the region.
 
“It is a privilege to donate the net proceeds from our estate sale to the Park City Education Foundation,” said Jessica Davis, general manager of the Washington School House.  “It was a natural connection with our hotel’s history as one of Park City’s first schools that we give back to the local educational community.  We appreciate everyone who came to shop and help contribute to this donation.”
 
"We are very grateful to the Washington School Inn for this donation," commented Abby McNulty, director of the Park City Education Foundation. "We will be able to use this money for our Teacher Grant Program which touches every school and nearly every student in our community.  The Washington School is a visible representation of the history of education in Park City and we're excited to know it is being lovingly restored."    
 
Listed on the National Historic Registry and one of the last surviving original schoolhouses in the United States, the century-old landmark will undergo an unprecedented restoration in preparation for its grand opening as the Washington School House, a high-end boutique hotel, in December 2011.  Located just steps from Old Town Park City’s popular Main Street, the Washington School House will epitomize luxury service and style when it reopens next winter.  With seven single rooms and five suites, guests will be captivated by the sixteen-foot high ceilings and nine-foot windows, which will be the focal point of the guestrooms, offering incredible views of the mountains and downtown.
