In the beginning, Park City was a rough and tumble silver mining boom town. The mines came and went but a raucous bunch of folks stayed on to ski and carouse. From those rowdy beginnings sprang bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff. Seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes. Come to think of it, Historic Park City today is still a lot like it was back in the 1890’s – only now with cushier lodgings and much better coffee.

Mar. 2011: Thomas Kearns McCarthey Gallery's Monthly Art Auction

Thomas Kearns McCarthey Gallery is one of the foremost dealers in the United States for Russian Impressionist art.  The Gallery maintains an extensive inventory of collectible works by Russia's most respected artists during the period of 1930 to 1980.  As you step inside their front door you are greeted by pieces capturing Russia's rich cultural heritage.  Russian Impressionism made an important contribution to the cultural heritage of Russia, but until recently, little has been known of its beauty and quality and its leading artists because of Soviet isolationism. During this period much of the cultural life in the Communist Soviet Union was denied Western exposure. The demise of Communism, the lifting of the Iron Curtain and the movement towards freedom and democracy of the newly formed Commonwealth of Independent States has allowed the world the opportunity to experience a unique and important historical past through the art work.

Every month the Thomas Kearns McCarthey Gallery selects a painting and holds a no reserve silent auction. Take part in their tradition and add a little excitement to your life while at the same time adding to your Russian art collection.

Over the months there have been some 'steals' and some bidding wars but no matter the outcome, it has been exciting for our Russian art collectors. The auction closes the last day of the month at 7:00pm.  Bids can be placed at the gallery or via fax on the bid form available on their website.
