In the beginning, Park City was a rough and tumble silver mining boom town. The mines came and went but a raucous bunch of folks stayed on to ski and carouse. From those rowdy beginnings sprang bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff. Seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes. Come to think of it, Historic Park City today is still a lot like it was back in the 1890’s – only now with cushier lodgings and much better coffee.

Park City Cocktail Contest Winner

Historic Park City congratulates Jeff Ferguson, from Shabu, in creating the Park City Signature Cocktail for 2011.

The April 6th competition was emceed by former United States Ski Team member Sean Smith, and bartenders from 16 restaurants prepared their specialty cocktails for a panel of celebrity local judges that included Park City Magazine editor Kristen Case, Salt Lake Magazine executive dining editor Mary Brown Malouf and Billy Demong, the first United States athlete to win gold in the Nordic Combined during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games.

A possible total of 100 points were divided into four categories.
Ease of preparation 30 points
Taste 40 points
Presentation 15 points
Originality 15 points

Jeff's winning creation called “No Thyme Like the Present” and included the following ingredients.

1 1/2 oz. Hendricks gin

5 oz. white grape juice

1/2 oz. cucumber syrup

1/2 oz. lime juice

sprig of thyme

The winning bartender received $100 cash and a trophy and the winning establishment received a plaque.
