In the beginning, Park City was a rough and tumble silver mining boom town. The mines came and went but a raucous bunch of folks stayed on to ski and carouse. From those rowdy beginnings sprang bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff. Seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes. Come to think of it, Historic Park City today is still a lot like it was back in the 1890’s – only now with cushier lodgings and much better coffee.

Oct. 2010: A Whole 'Nother Level

Park City Mountain Resort’s Town Lift and Sweeney’s Switchbacks rising above Historic Park City allow you to enjoy Park City on a whole new level, literally.   Walk along the Town Lift Bridge and begin your journey upon the slopes of Park City Mountain Resort by following Sweeney’s Switchbacks.   The trail quickly crisscrosses  and rises through the Town Runs of the Resort.  In the fall months, expect to see exquisite wild flowers and the leaves of the Aspen trees either creating a canopy above your head or a rug below your feet.  While Sweeney’s is a shorter hike, it is a great “get after it’ hike that keeps your heart rate pumping while allowing you to experience Historic Park City from above.  Don’t forget to look down, while above Historic Park City and try and find your favorite spot on Main Street.  Keep your eyes out for moose grazing on the ski runs in the early morning and see how many little critters you can find scurrying along the trail.   Enjoy!
