In the beginning, Park City was a rough and tumble silver mining boom town. The mines came and went but a raucous bunch of folks stayed on to ski and carouse. From those rowdy beginnings sprang bodacious boutiques and artsy stuff. Seriously good restaurants and a string of spirited watering holes. Come to think of it, Historic Park City today is still a lot like it was back in the 1890’s – only now with cushier lodgings and much better coffee.

Robert Randolf and the Family Band will be kicking off the 2012 FIS Freestyle World Cup at Deer Valley with a free performance on Main Street on February 1, 7 p.m. The annual ski event traditionally features a headlining band to start off the long weekend of freestyle and aerial events, and 2012 is no exception. The free concert is open to people of all ages.

This year is also the 10 year anniversary of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games™.  In commemoration of the games, we want you to show off your 2002 Olympic spirit one more time, so, come to Main Street in your SLOC uniform (purple, red, green or yellow uniform jacket or vest), Roots® Team U.S.A. Beret, or anything with a 2002 Olympic Winter Games logo on it, including pins.  Prizes will be awarded to those chosen for most creative, Olympic spirit. The evening concludes at 9pm with fireworks.

Robert Randolf and the Family Band frequently perform in Utah during their nationwide tours, but the band is making a special trek to Park City for the FIS World Cup at Deer Valley.

Performing since 2000, Robert Randolf and the Family Band has earned recognition among jam-band lovers worldwide. Lead singer and guitarist Robert Randolf is known for his custom-built, 13-string Fessenden pedal steel guitar and combining a soulful blend of blues and funk, thanks to his roots in rock and gospel music.

Robert Randolf and the Family Band will be performing songs from their latest album, We Walk This Road, which celebrates African-American music over the past 100 years and its social messages from the last 30. The songs found on the album are focused on inspiring, positive lyrics that carry an overall message of hope and encouragement.

“I can’t see myself recording depressing lyrics, lyrics that leave people without a sense of hope,” said Randolf, via the band’s website. “It’s not in me to use the power of the microphone to make music like that. That’s why this record is uplifting – it’s got great messages. It’s all there.” And with hundreds of skiers pushing their limits and raising the bar for competitive skiing, Randolf’s message is sure to set the mood for the 2012 World Cup at Deer Valley.
